I am a second year teacher. I taught 4th grade last year, and will be teaching 5th grade this school year. I am certified in both Missouri and Kansas. I obtained my degree from UMKC. I am very passionate about what I do and take it very seriously. However, learning should be flexible with lots of hands on experiences.
Student needs to first be extrinsically motivated with a goal of intrinsic motivation. Motivation is key in learning.

I like to help students find out how they learn best by asking questions and through learning style tests. Everyone doesn't learn in the same way and by finding out the students learning style I like to then taylor how I help them learn based off how they will be able to retain the information best.
I have been working as a student worker at Blue River Community College for the past few years. I really enjoy being able to help students study and learn. I graduated with my Associates this year and am pursuing a teaching degree. I have also had experience with helping tutor the children of freinds and family. I have always loved teaching and working with students. My mother is a teacher of almost 30 years, so I have the importance of education ingrained in me. I do believe that every student can learn, some are just a little harder to reach than others. I am trained in a variety of teaching techniques and pride myself on being able to work through the strategies with students to find one that will work. I do believe that there must be a mutual level of respect between teacher and student and so I do work hard to learn about my students' backgrounds and interests to help with my lessons. A Little Bit About Me...

As a parent of two school-aged children I have had the oppurtunity to learn about the newest teaching methods employed by teachers at this time. We often work together on math and science. I am currently working on my teaching certification in middle school science, but have always been had excelent aptitude for mathmatics. I also substitute in the Blue Springs, Grain Valley and Fort Osage School district in which I often assist students with work that has been left for them by the teacher, whether it be math, science or english. I am also a published writer and continue to write every day.
The most important thing to remember when teaching a child new concepts is patience. All children learn skills in different ways. Some catch on quickly, others need more time. Normally I would have them write something and then we would look at their work together and discuss how we could improve it. Once they see how they write, and then learn what they need to do to improve that, and why, they start to incorporate that writing style. We may write up templates, or dummy copies, so that they have something to refer to the next time they need to write a similar project. It isn't about showing them what they aren't doing, but showing them what they can do and how they can improve that.
I've worked as an addiction tech, juvenile court officer, volunteered at Girls, Inc., an obituary writer, and a freelance writer. In each of those positions, at many a time, I had to assist someone with writing. My mom was a K-8 grade teacher, as were all of my aunts, so it runs in the family. All of them were English Majors.
