My comments on tutoring Writing : I have a BLA in Landscape Architecture from the University of Washington and a BA in Art. I believe my abilities to listen, comprehend, and produce sensitive design directly translate to writing. To write well, one must be consistently aware of the objective and searching for creative ways to express thoughts and opinions.

I spent thirteen years in college, and participated in many study groups. Every group has a person who leads, I have generally taken that role. I have also chosen professions where working in groups is the norm. I enjoy active problem solving, looking at all potential solutions, and digging for the best. I think these skills have lead me to being an exemplary employee. Officially I have only served as a tutor on a volunteer basis; for the last six years I have primarily dealt with elementary school aged children. I like students to be comfortable, enjoy their experiences with me as much as possible, and learn not only the material they need to study, but also habits and practices that will help them with future studies.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a regular classroom teacher, I felt hampered due to class size. I was never satisfied connecting with just a few students. Every student was important to me. I realized that the only way for me to really reach students was by reducing the teacher-student ratio. As a tutor, I found that teaching smaller groups of students or one-on-one was for me. Using this style, I feel strongly that students learn more, particularly at home. Students are much more comfortable at home which creates an excellent environment for learning.
