My job as an educator is to teach them how to learn it and make them want to learn it. I personally do not believe that negative reinforcement is beneficial. Positive responses to students are extremely valuable, even if they may occasionally give the wrong answer. This will give them the motivation to do well. Reading is one of my top subjects! I am an avid reader of many things not just books. I am always wanting to learn new things so i read up on different subjects and I'm self taught no college degree just real world experience.

I don't have any formal training like college or anything. Every bit of my experience is real world experience from working in the field. I believe that hands on or real world experience is much more efficient compared to book knowledge. A book can only tell you a thing or two that might work. I know what will work.
My teaching style is a little bit outside of traditional. I believe in a more hands on approach not just say " Read this and lets see where you are tomorrow." People respond a lot better to this approach as opposed to homework or lessons that make no sense.

My comments on tutoring Reading : I specialize in Dyslexia and use the Barton Reading & Spelling System. This program is Orton-Gillingham Influenced and was designed for Dyslexic students. However, it is benefical for other learning disabilities as well.

After graduating with my Bachelors Degree, I worked in a Residential Treatment Center for abused children for two years. One year of this experience took place in a classroom setting to assist teachers with behavior issues. Upon receiving my California Teaching Credential, I worked in California public schools teaching in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades. Reading is one of my top subjects!

I perfer to work with students one on one. I feel that reading or the lack of the ability to read effects every other subject. It is also important for the student to understand what they are reading (comprehension, rather thatn just calling words. I like to question students about wht subject matter. I also think Phonics have been placed on the back burner, I think phonics are extremely important.
I have worked in Metro Nashville School system as a DIrector of Bordeaux Northwest Family Resource Center where my focus was "Children Will Succeed in School". My focus was securing tutors for students who were not reading on grade level. During this tenure I was successful in assisting more than 150 students successfully meet their goals.
