I worked in the university's Writing Center as a consultant while also teaching a first-year composition course, and went on, after earning my degree, to teach college writing full time. Teaching has been a productive and varied part of my life. I've worked as a substitute for nearly 18 years(1974-1992) in the Champaign-Urbana area school districts in Illinois, as well as a private music instructor, and as a class guitar instructor before moving to Nashville in 1996. I've done in home tutoring for students that were homebound for various reasons. A Little Bit About Me...

I have been a professional musician since 1978, teaching other musicians theory, performance etc. What can I say? I grew up in a music store! I've taught guitar, bass guitar, piano, drums and piano technology. Most of my students are now professional musicians. I don't use any techniques out of any book, each person is different and their needs are also.
My father had a piano rebuilding shop and I worked for him begining at age 12, in every aspect of piano rebuilding, regulating and tuning. Do I need to say more? Over 40 years of working on pianos is more than most piano tuners have. I don't use tuning machines, God already gave me 2 on each side of my head that work much better. I could write a long paragraph of blah blah trying to impress you but over 40 years of pianos says it all.

I teach in a personal, adaptive and responsive style. I listen first, identify the needs of the student and develop a one on one approach to raise their proficiency. My teaching style has been developed from my experience in volunteer literacy tutoring with Hispanic immigrants, and substitute teaching in Davidson and Williamson County Schools.
