I earned my bachelor degree from the University of Minnesota Duluth in Teaching Secondary Mathematics and Secondary Earth and Space Science in 2001. When tutoring I usually ask prompting questions to assist the person in working through a problem. By building off of the skills the student already has it helps them better understand the process. If a student is learning new material or does not understand the way something was explained I will try to come up with an alternative method. I will go through an example with them step by step ensuring that they understand what happens along the way. I try to relate problems to real life so that they will remember what they have learned better.

I am currently a medical student at the University of Minnesota Medical School Duluth. Before I started medical school I worked as a tutor for six years with two teenage boys with autism. Under the six years of my tutoring, both of these "disabled" kids were completely mainstreamed and even taking some AP and challenge classes. I believe that any kid can learn if they are taught in a way that is fun and structured. I tutored these kids in Math, Science, Social Studies and English. I also spent a semester as a Teaching Assistant in an upper level Philosophy course during my undergrad. Most of my TA tutoring was helping college students write papers.

A Little Bit About Me...

As an undergraduate student I worked at a general science and math tutor as well as a class specific calculus I tutor. I was teaching assistant for calculus I for two semesters and ran a study table for the athletic department for student with a GPA less than 2.5. As a graduate student I have taught both majors and non-majors biochemistry lab as well as general chemistry lab and discussion. I have had the opportunity to lecture, write quizzes, tests, and homework for college level courses as well as grade all course material.
Teaching is a very important part of learning; it is an ongoing process that is active and not static.
