My teaching style includes patience, listening and determination. While teaching at C.S. Lewis I not only taught but also learned. I believe that with children patience is necessary and primary. Then while you may be the teacher you also have to listen in order to instruct properly. Finally being determined because in teaching you have to not allow yourself to give up. Many times students become frustrated and want to quite, you have to be an example of not giving up. If you do this they will see you as an example and learn this behavior. I believe that students need to be challenged. When they are highly challenged, they really produce. In my tutoring experience, my students' test scores rose two grade levels in ten weeks because they were challenged. Previously, these students were thought to not be able to speak, read, or write English, and were pre-testing at very low grade levels. For the first three years out of the university, I was a school librarian, and was board certified K-12 by the Washington State Board of Education as a result of this experience. From 2006-2008, I have been tutoring writing at Northern New Mexico College, from 4th grade remedial level through college papers in all subjects. I am presently working in an Upward Bound program for 9th graders, to help increase their study skills.
