The study of language has played a major role in my life since I was young, when I pieced together bits of Spanish from the native speakers in my extended family, and then through high school where I studied Spanish more intensely. In college, I turned my focus to Classics. Study of Latin and Greek at the University has strongly reinforced my understanding of not only grammar but literature, philosophy, and culture. I have been tutoring Latin for two years, with 8 years of experience tutoring language and teaching guitar lessons. After teaching 2 years at a large public High School, I spent 5 years as a Research Chemist in the pharmaceutical industry. This experience gives me a practical understanding of research and science that I could not have achieved had I limited my career to teaching alone. After graduation I began teaching in Missouri at the middle school level for students with behavioral disorders. I taught all subjects in my classroom. After 2 years I moved to the high school level where I co-taught algebra and pre-algebra. I did this for 5 years and absolutely loved it!
