My comments on tutoring Shakespeare : B.A. and M.A. in English. Taught Shakespeare to high school students and adults. Extensive tutoring experience with Shakespeare and other early modern (Medieval-Renaissance) English writers.

After attending (and teaching in) a graduate program in American/British Literature and Language at L.S.U., I realized that my true calling was teaching. I began teaching English, Journalism, S.A.T. Prep., Latin, and other subjects in Springfield, MA in 2003 in an alternative, urban high school. I taught (and tutored after school) until I moved to Florida in 2009, when my spouse began graduate studies at U.S.F. Since then, I have continued to tutor a wide range of students in subjects ranging from high school Latin, 5th grade Math, college English, S.A.T. and G.E.D. Preparation, and graduate level writing, and I have extensive training and experience with students who struggle with dyslexia, ADD/ADHD and ESL issues, as well as with children diagnosed with Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD) and Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD).
I believe that all students can and will achieve ... read more

"Half of knowledge is knowing where to find it."

Once while subbing, I entered a classroom where the students had been allowed to watch Jerry Springer on TV for the last two weeks. I couldn't let this continue, but I saw how emotional the class was about the show. I encouraged them to write their own talk show and told them we would perform it the next day. I find that connecting student's interest with the subject matter to be learned is the best way to teach.
After completing my undergraduate degree in English Literature at Florida State University, I worked as a substitute teacher in Hillsborough County for two years. In 2009, I completed my Master's Degree in Communication at University of South Florida while simultaneously employed at the Department of Special Education. I have been tutoring with Advanced Learners for 1 year and am currently an Adjunct Instructor of Public Speaking at HCC Dale Mabry.

Although there are many ways to teach, I strongly believe in Experiential Education. Experiential Education tries to find ways to help the student discover an answer instead of being given an answer and makes learning hands on and relevant to the student's own life. This takes more time and patience, but at the end the student has a real understanding of what they are learning. As long as a student wants to learn, I will do all I can to make learning interesting.
As a student at New College of Florida I studied Literature and Sociology before writing an undergraduate thesis on Outdoor Education. During research for my thesis I studied many educational theories and used them for a camping-education program proposal based on Florida educational standards. After graduating, I spent a year in South Carolina teaching outdoor education to elementary school students.

I value hands-on learning and discussion in teaching. Only when there is a discussion can our minds open to what is possible. Whether it is reading a passage, a novel, or an article and discussing what is said, what it could mean, and how it affects us or others or if is going outside to study ecological relationships, I want to engage my students in their learning. Only when a student makes the learning his will he grow and test himself with what he can learn and do. I am patient and am willing to try many avenues to teach your child.
Throughout my life I have tried to acquire a knowledge of the world around me. To meet this end, I was an English major with a Bachelors of Science degree and then I received a Masters in Geography. After school I worked with the U.S. Geological Survey studying water quality. While I loved this work and it taught me how to be a hard scientist, the ... read more

As a professional in the field of physical education it is my obligation to change the way physical education is perceived in our society. The purpose of Physical Education is to help children develop the skills they will need for becoming functionally active and healthy people in society. It is important to realize that the mind and the body are closely linked together. Physical education and academic achievement are closely linked in that physical fitness promotes a healthy mind. Excellent with children, I can adjust my teaching style with the personality of the child. No child learns the same, so it is important to create a learning plan that builds trust and respect between the child and tutor. I have found my greatest attribute is the ability to make learning fun and “cool.” I am passionate about teaching. If the children you teach can sense your passion for the subject, they will absorb that energy and want to excel. I also consider myself very patient - frustration has a very negative effect when trying to create a positive learning environment. Finally, I believe in creating a benchmark style constructional curriculum. I strive to instill the same love for learning my teachers gave me. Learning is for life.

I wholeheartedly believe in the power of education. I believe that education is the key to our freedom in life. I hope to teach this philosophy to my students. As a teacher, I would describe myself as laid-back and patient. I have found that my patience is what helps me in helping students comprehend the information they are learning. I teach to every learning style and intelligence. I believe all children can learn much more than we expect of them, they just have to be taught the way they learn. Diversity is what makes our world go around, and that is what I teach to my students.
Growing up, I never thought that I would want to be a teacher. After taking a job as a Childcare Counselor with the YMCA, I realized the I was meant to teach and work with children.
