My comments on tutoring Language Arts : Help with english language specifics.

I think people learn best when they are in a supportive and exciting environment. Education should engage students on multiple levels. I emphasis critical thinking skills and multi-faceted learning rather than asking students to spit back information that they won't retain. Knowledge is power and I encourage students to think beyond their grades so that they can harness their own potential.

My approach is simple: assess the student's academic weaknesses, review the strengths, then teach the new material in order to bridge the content or skill. "Scaffolding" is the best means by which to teach so that the student understands the significance of the lesson.
