A Little Bit About Me...

I completed my BA in English at the University of Utah in two and a half years in order to begin work on my MA in English as quickly as possible. In the half year between completing my BA and beginning my MA, I was a substitute teacher in the Jordan School District in Sandy, UT. I have just finished my first year in the English MA program at Boston College where I was also a tutor at the Connors Family Learning Center. In addition to school and tutoring, I also work as a Kaplan Student Advisor at Kaplan Test Prep and Admissions where I help students with basic questions about Graduate level admissions tests and test-taking strategies. A Little Bit About Me...

As a Weber State graduate, I majored in Zoology and minored in Chemistry. Even though science has always been a passion of mine, I am very knowledgeable in math. During my undergraduate studies, I have gained even more experience and improved on my grammatical skills. I had the opportunity to be an Anatomy lab instructor for three semesters. Additionally, I have had the opportunity to tutor my wife with her math. At first, this was a challenge. Math is a subject where one cannot only rely on memory. I found that it's best to be very patient and teach the processes of mathematic principles, rather than just assume the person whom you're tutoring knows these processes.

A Little Bit About Me...

I love kids - they are often sweet, funny, easily impressed and are a great audience. I know that it is possible to make learning fun through a close, interactive relationship with a student - showing and guiding them through your own discovery of the subject. There have been times when I could feel one of my students learning; it is always a smile-provoking moment and I treasure every one.
I have a Master of Arts degree in English from Utah State University and have taught EFL overseas and within the US. Recently (from 07-08), I worked as a Math Tutor for challenged fifth graders and also for Kindergarteners part-time at Lincoln Elementary in Layton while my son was in pre-school. I am competent in elementary math and sincerely enjoy helping others to find the inherent beauty of numbers and what they can do.
