One on One learning!
I'm here to help those who know zero and want to start, as well as beginners learn and practice the basics of Japanese including the 3 writing systems, grammar, pronunciation, and native usage! I will provide some learning materials from an official textbook so you won't need to buy. No direct testing, though can direct clients to sources to hone your skills. Hello! Hajimemashite!
I recently returned (June 2018) from my study abroad at Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University, or APU! I studied and lived there for about three years. My major was in Asia Studies and Japanese Culture, Society and Media. I was able to get an equivalent of N3 on the JLPT(Japanese Language Proficiency Test). While i'm not natively "fluent”, I was able to live and navigate daily life independently. I was also a TA for multiple classes while I attended my own curriculum.

Adam D. - Richmond, VA 23173 (38.2 mi) - Japanese Tutor - $40.00/hr.
Native Japanese I'm half Japanese and half British. Previously worked in Japan, and still work with clients from the area. I've tutored Japanese since the age of 16, and enjoy the interactions with my students. Qualified Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) grade 1 holder. Still visit Japan 2-3 times a year, which effectively allows me to share the Japanese culture from a native's perspective too.

I emphasize understanding the principle as opposed to just “getting the answer”. Sometimes a student will get frustrated with me because of that, but I’m committed to teaching how to fish and not just handing out fish.
For example, with a mathematical problem, I may throw out additional problems revolving around the same principle at hand to make sure the student really understands as opposed to just getting past one question. Similarly, in a linguistic setting, after the student feels he or she understands the given word or grammatical structure, I will ask the student to construct additional sentences to make sure they really get it. I graduated from Georgetown University in '05 with a BA in Chinese. I won the Chinese Award, spent a semester at Peking University, and received a 7 on the HSK Chinese Proficiency Test.
I grew up speaking Japanese. I took a few courses while at G
