My comments on tutoring Spanish : Taught Spanish for grades 7 - 8 as a substitute teacher at Van Wyck Jr. High School from February to March 2014. Dual citizen of Spain and the United States. Studied at the Universidad Alcala de Henares in Madrid, Spain during the summer of 2007.

I was a substitute teacher for Wappingers Central School district from April 2013 to June 2014. I taught grades 6 - 12 for a variety of subjects including, but not limited to Social Studies, Spanish, English, Music, and Special Education. One particular position I held was that I was a substitute Spanish teacher at Van Wyck Jr. High School teaching grades 7 - 8 from February to March 2014. As a musician, before moving to the area, I was on the Executive Board of American Federation of Musicians Local 238 - 291. I have been playing French horn for 16 years and guitar for 13 years.

A Little Bit About Me...

I love to teach and see the ideas light up the eyes of the person who suddenly got a concept. I think teaching should be adaptable and should fit the learning style of the student. Visual tasks, memory games, and hands-on-learning are, in my opinion, the best way to help someone truly learn (versus rote memory). I think that with the right guidance and put in the right environment, anyone can learn. I look forward to being that "right guidance."

A Little Bit About Me...

Although I have no formal teaching experience, I do have been developing my teaching style for many years while I worked with the developmentally disabled. I learned to identify a teachable moment, which is a time at which the student would be most receptive to learning. It is easy to talk at a student about how to do a problem. But experience has shown me that this rarely works. Initially, it is important that I learn as much as I can about how the student is doing with the topic involved. I try to use diagrams, graphing calculators, and other visual aids as much as possible. When appropriate, I ask the student to explain to me as much as they can about a topic. This helps me see how much he or she knows and where I should begin in order to help him or her succeed.
