My comments on tutoring SAT - Verbal : I have been trained by a learning center on how to teach the SAT - Verbal. I have tutored many students on how to increase their scores as well.

I am a great speaker, and I can easily relate to my students. I push my students thoroughly to reach their objectives, because I do not believe there is anyone who cannot learn a subject. I have never had a student fail on my watch, and I do not intend to ever have that happen if a student is trying. If you have the will to learn, I will see to it that you increase your grade.
I am a Social Studies teacher in the state of Pennsylvania. I graduated from an NCATE accredited university that has a rigorous education program. In that program, I was required to teach elementary students, middle school students, high school students, college students, and adult classes. I have been teaching for three years and tutoring for five years. I have taught multiple types of learners in multiple subjects with a significant amount of success.

I am a proponent of two things. First, encouragement. I always encourage the smallest success before I point out any failure. I never get frustrated or upset. I never get angry or disappointed. I know that encouragement breeds success, and success is the goal. Second, I speak to children as if they know what I mean. In other words, I never talk down to them. I almost feel as if I might treat kids more like adults than I treat adults.
I have always been very mathematical, even though I did little to cultivate it. One of my favorite classes in college was a statistics course I took, and the other was a logic class. I love to read books, and I enjoy chess as a hobby. Teaching is my true passion, and I regret leaving a teaching job to pursue a law degree, and I can only hope to pick up where I left off. I was a teacher/counselor at a teenage group home for 4 years. This was the most re ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I pride myself on my desire to structure my lessons and my attitude in a student-centered way, and I am keenly aware that the true environment of my classroom depends on me. My philosophy of education is that the bulk of the weight rests on my shoulders; I issue the clear expectations, promote logical consequences, and then I practice what I preach. A firm subscriber to the philosophy that students must be given the opportunity to make their own decisions and that they must be able to see the logical consequence of those decisions, I operate my classroom knowing that teenagers need to feel like they have ownership of their lives. If I am organized, prepare captivating lessons, provide clear expectations, and promote logical consequences, my students will be the captains of their own ships and I will have played a role in cultivating more engaged citizens.

I graduated with an AB in Chemistry, from a top college in the country, which has helped me gain a better understanding of mathematics and the physical sciences. I have learned from writing countless lab reports and term papers, in many different areas of study, the importance of grammar and research before one begins a project. I have mentored children throughout community organizations, helping them with everything from homework to life’s problems.
My teaching style would focus on making sure that all children understand the basics of what they are doing before they can proceed to a more difficult level of study. As a law school graduate, I am well trained in writing and communication skills. While in law school I was awarded a position on the legal journal of Health Matrix: Journal of Law-Medicine. My duties as a member of the executive board were to manage the staff and tutor the other editors in writing skills as they developed articles worthy of publication in the journal. In addition to my experience in law school, I am currently clerking for a federal judge in downtown Pittsburgh where I write legal opinions and edit the work of other law clerks and interns. I believe that my experience in editing the work of others at a high level will prove to be a valuable asset in the tutoring of children in writing and reading skills.

I began tutoring while in high school, as a junior and senior I would spend 2-3 afternoons a week at the Middle School helping the learning support classes write book reports. While in college at Slippery Rock University, I put up flyers around campus and worked as an independent tutor for five dollars an hour aiding my fellow students finish their final papers at the end of each semester. I feel that my degree in Creative Writing aids me greatly in tutoring because my ability to think outside the box and put myself in the writers shoes helps me to better understand their writing style. I've recently moved to the city and I am really eager to begin teaching and tutoring again.
I prefer to work one on one with a single student, I do my very best to make my student feel comfortable and ready to learn. I learn what the student likes; music, sports, movies, I use these things to relate ... read more
