My comments on tutoring GED : I have taught Kindergarten, 2nd Grade, 3rd Grade, and 5th Grade. I am certified K-6th grade. I also taught advanced and Intermediate math and language arts in a GED/HiSet program. I currently teach ESOL/CIVICS for an Adult School.

My teaching philosophy starts out with essentialism which believes in a strong core curriculum and high academic standards. I believe it is important to have a strong foundation on which to build upon. After ensuring a strong foundation I tend to lean more towards progressivism. I believe students should be taught what is relevant today while becoming more independent learners, by utilizing problem solving skills and critical thinking. I teach the foundation and build upon that based upon what is relevant in a particular field today. I also include student-centered teaching strategies. I believe in order to learn a student must have base knowledge of a subject that leads into hands on assignments which require mastery of a subject. I was a teaching assistant at North Georgia College and State University for three years. I assisted with laboratory sections of biology courses and taught them in the event of a professors absence. I provided department funded tutoring services during that time as well. I have taken the GRE and Biology Section of the GRE and received excellent scores on both tests in only one sitting. I have also coached 4H horse quiz bowl and horse judging teams for several years working with elementary and middle school age children.

The last ten years of my teaching career, I taught Adult Basic Education at Orange Grove Center in Chattanooga, TN, English as a Second Language as well as some GED prep classes for Chattanooga State Techinical Community College. Growing up, English was always my favorite and best subject. I have also been out of our country(S. Korea) teaching English.
I love children and love teaching anyone to do anything. I enjoy cooking, sewing and gardening and therefore am well able to help your child find academic success in a variety of subjects. I am a firm believer that a student learns by discovering what works for him/her.
