A Little Bit About Me...

I have more than eight years tutoring experience. I have been a recitation instructor for all basic math courses, lecturer for Algebra I and II, Geometry, Statistics, Pre-calc, Calc I, and a recitation instructor for Calc II. I earned a first bachelor in Agricultural Engineering and I am currently working on a second one at Florida Gulf Coast University in Civil Engineering. I am a senior student. I also have a temporary certificate as a Math teacher in Florida.
I love helping children. It is my belief that with my patience and good method, all children can reach great academic success. I have a long experience in helping young adults reach their academic goals. As engineer, I can tutor in Mathematics as well as in Sciences.

As a civil engineer, I have taught math as a tutor at New American English School in Haiti for two years. Since I came here, I worked as a tutor at baron collier for a particular program for two years. I think that math is my domain I can definitly help anyone even at college level.

My main goal in teaching is not to have the student simply memorize the necessary content in order to achieve an A in the course but it is rather to impart the student with an understanding of the underlying concepts so that they may build upon this knowledge. Understanding the coursework will allow the student to excel in other synthetic classes and enable them to manipulate, construct, and critically think regarding the subject. I have taught many students ranging from freshman to seniors at the college level and can be dynamic enough to cater to each of their learning styles whether they learn pictorially, verbally, with power point etc.

I like to teach by example and immersion. So much of what schools preach today is rote memorization, and to a certain degree, this cannot be avoided. But whenever possible, I like to try and find real world applications and demonstrations to get my lessons across to my pupil.
Throughout high school and college, I've always excelled in my school work. I was president of the math club and often tutored my peers during my spare time. I believe strongly in approaching each child with a variety of techniques. I let the child explore why, then give concept information. The student then needs to practice, and finally personalize the information. This must be done using both analysis (left brain) and synthesis(right brain).
After graduation I taught English for 28 years. During this time I became a Dept. Head. I also was trained to train teachers in learning styles and hemisphericity. I have adult AD/HD.
