I've been a teacher's unofficial little helper since I was in Elementary, helping the students of my class that the teacher simply didn't have the extra time to help. From then on, I helped and even eventually taught my younger siblings when the current school system left them in the dust, and even helped them get a leg up and advance faster than their classmates. I've tutored a few younger kids in various subjects in my high school years, as well as occasionally teaching Taekwondo classes.

As a graduate of a private liberal arts college, I was educated in English and multi-cultural literature. As a reflection of what I was learning, I became interested in participating in the literary tradition, and began to take creative writing very seriously. I developed a passion for both poetry and literature and wish to share it with my students. I have tutored English, writing, history, ecology, and screenwriting.

I like to teach by example and immersion. So much of what schools preach today is rote memorization, and to a certain degree, this cannot be avoided. But whenever possible, I like to try and find real world applications and demonstrations to get my lessons across to my pupil.

Since 2nd grade, when my teacher sat me next to a 10-year old boy with Cerebral Palsy, it seems I have been called upon to instruct others. I tutored our high school rockstar drummer in French so he could graduate. In college I taught 3- and 4-year olds, learning as much from them, as about them. In the Army, as an instructor and Executive Officer, those child development principles and skills were frequently handy and surprisingly adaptive with young adults, and a few senior cadre. A child may not understand fractions but if you ask them to divide up a candy bar, they know how many pieces they want to split it in to and how many they want. I believe that listening is the key to teaching. A good teacher and a good listener is the difference between a child attending school and a child excelling in school.
