All children are diverse learners. All children learn differently, and no two are alike. Good instruction includes fitting the lesson according to the learner. Tutoring a child who is a book learner is different than a child who needs visuals or manipulatives. Some children need academics tied into real life experiences. I feel it is important to understand what is different and unique about every student. Not all students will learn in the same way, nor will they find their desire to learn in the same way. I feel it is my duty as a teacher to find what these ways are for every student. Differentiation is vital to the learning process and can only be executed effectively if you know your students.
In high school I tutored junior high students who were having trouble in with school. After high school I joined the U.S Navy, where I trained junior personal for three years. As a student at Corning Community College, I was a tutor in the Math Learning Center. Of the two years I attended Corning, I worked in the MLC for one and a half of those years.
