Over the past several years and while obtaining my BS in Chemistry at Western Washington University I have grown considerably, in the knowledge of science, math and people. My education has provided me with a strong understanding of math and science. As a chemistry undergraduate student I worked part-time in the general chemistry labs as a laboratory assistant. I remember as a student, often times I could not fully understand a new subject until I learned “why”. I believe that most children (and young adults), being inquisitive in nature, need to know “why”, not just “what”, “who”, or whatever else is important to learn. “Why” makes things make sense, and allows connections to be made to related concepts. When teaching, I try to get students to understand “why” as much as possible. I also try to get them to do as much as possible, make them work for the answers, instead of spoon feeding them. During the five years I tutored college students in Illinois, I learned alot of teaching styles that my students liked. I always try to explain the subject in a way that makes it easy for the student to learn fast. Sometimes I use visual aids to explain difficult lessons.
