Never stop learning!

I grasped the importance of education at a very young age and excelled throughout school. Early in my youth I also developed a sincere passion for helping fellow classmates who I saw were having difficulties comprehending course material. I had a knack for connecting with students, identifying the point of confusion, and creating different avenues to reach full comprehension of a subject matter. I have since went on to develop tutoring groups on all educational levels. I co-founded a youth group T.U.F.F. (Teach Us First Foundation) where we attend local elementary schools offering tutoring services in Math, English, Sciences and Social Studies. During high school I developed a teen study group entitled Let's Rap where we would meet (with professional tutors on site), assist each other with homework and discuss any material that was causing confusion in class. My Motto: Every Child Deseves To Succeed!

I first began tutoring when I was attending University of Michigan. It gave me great pleasure to help others succeed. After graduating I held many prestigous positions but none captured my passion as much as tutoring. Eventually my passion got the best of me and I began tutoring elementary, middle school, and high school students. For the past 5 years I have been professionally tutoring elementary school through freshman college students. I partner with local elementary - high schools: E.W. West Elementary, Landmark Academy,Langston High School, and Mills Springs Academy. I also work with Graduation Counselors to prepare their students to take ACT, ASVAB, and SAT tests. My students say that I make learning easy to understand. I believe every student has the potential to suceed. The key to their success is to teach by using the method in which they learn. Algebra II is one of my top subjects! I have tutored Algebra 2 for more than two years now. I have used various technological tools like Maple and WebAssign to help students solve complex problems. My approach to helping students learn algebra is to consistently remind them of basic stuff while they delve themselves into complex problems. I like to tell students, "You are working too hard." This means, I have a better and simpler way of understanding and solving the problem. When students get too submerged into problems, they tend to forget basic stuff. That is where reminding them of basic concepts becomes important. One of the examples is when students see a really long equation, they automatically think it involves some complex formulas and techniques while it can be just broken down with simple concepts.

I involve students a lot during the learning period. I consistently ask them questions about the topic and let them think for a while. I give them as much information as possible so that they do not miss any information while solving problems. I make students write. That is how they learn. I consistently give students concepts and them demonstrate with sample questions.

My comments on tutoring Algebra II : I am known as the Ace of Algebra

I like to include technology and real world scenarios when giving instruction. I try to simplify to learning process of math skills. Math consists of rules and formulas that must be followed to be successful. Repetition creates a disciplined mind, which is needed to follow the rules/formulas each and every time it is required.
I have taught Math at the middle level for four years, helping students gain skills and confidence to improve their math performance. I have taught general and advanced Math classes. My instruction has guided students to perform better in class and on standardized tests. I emphasize that standardized tests make the math process easier by displaying the possible correct answer, so working backwards is an option. But most importantly I have learned that several students suffer from test anxiety in class and more frequently on standardized tests. So I teach to m ... read more

My comments on tutoring Algebra II : I am a certified Mathematics Instructor grades 9-12

Instructed Math I and Math III classes in the Atlanta Public School System for one year. There I sought professional development opportunities to enhance teaching effectiveness; managed classroom behavior; met with parents regarding students’ academic and behavioral performances; planned lessons, assigned homework; created tests, quizzes, activities, and worksheets; tutored students after class. In addition, I Instructed an SAT Preparatory math class and a refresher math course to adults at Atlanta Metropolitan College, Department of Continuing Education.
True teaching is a student centered endeavor. Instruction should be adapted to fit the student’s distinctive form of comprehension. The opportunity to exercise minds and the challenge accompanying that goal is at the heart of my motivation to teach; All people enjoy learning.
