I write with great enthusiasm to apply for the position of Tutor. I recently graduated from Gettysburg College Magna Cum Laude earning my Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology and Neuroscience. I have previous experience working as a Clinician/Tutor for Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes, providing one-on-one instruction to students and implemented programs that provided effective treatment for dyslexia, hyperlexia, autism, and other learning disabilities. Further, I have years of experience volunteering as a tutor, instructing students of all ages (including high school) in various subjects.

After graduating in 1978 with a chemical engineering degree, I was recruited by BFGoodrich Chemical Group. I have 13 years experience in manufacturing: capital budgeting and appropriations requests, energy reduction, quality improvements, scheduling and raw material ordering. I also managed the environmental program, assuring compliance with all environmental regulations and reporting.
Both my children were born with developmental delays. I aggressively researched the public law requiring an appropriate education for all and was involved in assuring so. My daughter was mainstreamed before kindergarten and have been extremely successful. My son has also done well with grades although his Asperger's Disorder continues to pose challenges. I am very familiar with learning differences and have great patience in dealing with others.

I prefer to help my students make discoveries on their own. It seems to me that a good teacher is there to guide and point a student in a way that will help him learn truths. These learned truths become much more than a set of facts to be memorized. Rather, they are ideas and concepts that have been discovered by the student, and as such treasured and considered precious.
I am fascinated by the world in which we live, especially by the part that is explored, discovered and understood by science. To prepare for my own exploration of the world, I studied zoology, chemistry, genetics, anatomy, and biology; these efforts resulted in three degrees: a BS, a MS, and a PhD. I directed a successful research program for many years, during which time I taught and mentored several college and high school students in both the classroom and laboratory.
