As a regular classroom teacher, I felt hampered due to class size. I was never satisfied connecting with just a few students. Every student was important to me. I realized that the only way for me to really reach students was by reducing the teacher-student ratio. As a tutor, I found that teaching smaller groups of students or one-on-one was for me. Using this style, I feel strongly that students learn more, particularly at home. Students are much more comfortable at home which creates an excellent environment for learning. To prepare for my own exploration of the world, I studied zoology, chemistry, genetics, anatomy, and biology; these efforts resulted in three degrees: a BS, a MS, and a PhD. I directed a successful research program for many years, during which time I taught and mentored several college and high school students in both the classroom and laboratory.
I prefer to help my students make discoveries on their own. It seems to me that a good teacher is there to guide and point a student in a way that will help him learn truths.
