Young people learn through different ways and means. I try to discern the best method to instruct any particular student with whom I am tutoring at the time. I like to give examples of problems, and "problem solve" with the student through illustrative examples on paper or on the board. I encourage questions and feedback to ensure that the young person is indeed learning "how" to solve a problem, not simply to "get" a solution. A student's practical demonstration of problem solving is the best gauge to determine if that student is indeed learning or not. I have many experiences in child care. When I was in my Sophomore year of high school I tutored elementary age children. I did that my Junior and Senior years as well. I took two years of early childhood education in college and in that time I tutored elementary students. I was an intern for a social service agency my Junior year of college and participated in an after school program where I helped the children complete homework and performed activities with them.
