My teaching style all depends on the subject and the student. Everyone learns differently. Unfortunately, the public school system seems to disagree with that. I begin by assessing the type of learner you are and from there I pick my teaching style. I have experience in and outside of the classroom in all of the fields I listed. As an English major and writer/editor with 15 years of experience, I have honed my grammatical, language and communication skills through the written word and verbal expression. With volunteer work at women's shelter's, I read to and helped elementary-age kids learn to read during my time spent with them. I love being with and teaching children, especially when it comes to reading and books. I find it highly gratifying to see the joy that comes with learning to love to read and the subsequent doors of learning that open as a result. Though kids have different learning styles, I believe that books and the ability to read are a universal passion that transcends all backgrounds and abilities. I have always enjoyed tutoring students and seeing them "get" the subjects we are touching on. The look on their face during this moment is priceless. I fully understand that everyone learns things in different ways. While one student may be able to memorize and understand facts one way, say by repetition, another student may learn the information by understanding the background and context that it comes from. Throughout my higher educational career, I’ve been driven to learn as much as possible to help satisfy my enormous curiosity. I have earned a bachelor degree in English Literature, and am currently a MFA candidate in the creative writing program at Arizona State University.
