A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style with students of all ages is to facilitate their learning as opposed to simply feeding them what I feel is the best response. Students learning is maximized when they can take ownership of and pride in their work. I am very patient. Recognizing that all students learn differently, I seek to ascertain their learning styles and then adjust my tutoring style to that learning style.
I taught and tutored ESL two years before entering law school. I hae taught college classes as an adjunct and later FT professor at Penn College for 25 years. I currently serve as Career Outreach Coordinator for HACC-Lebanon Campus. I have tutored many students, particularly in areas such as writing essays. I also served as a reader for the SAT Writing section, so I am familiar with what they are seeking. I am very proficient in grammar and structure.

Every job I've ever had has been one where I teach. I had a job 3 years teaching ballroom dance, 2 years I coached T-ball, and for 4 years I've tutored math. I just recently graduated and I can't see myself not helping someone learn and love math. Math isn't a subject that everyone loves but I believe that can change with the right teacher. I'm not a tutor that gets frustrated and just tells the answer. I'm also not a person who makes things difficult to understand. With all the different teachers that I've had through my life I have picked up on a lot of their teaching techniques. A Little Bit About Me...

I have trained students in a laboratory, restaurant and in the home. I graduated from college with honors and have succeeded in statistics, algebra 2, calculus 1, biology 1, chemistry 1, English literature, professional writing, civics, sketching/painting and classical guitar
It's imperative to listen and understand a students challenges. Reviewing their previous work and giving a current test is a good indicator of the situation. I believe in practice and examples as the clearest path to success. I don't hand deliver answers and I make the process towards answers engaging. I make sure the time and place are conducive to active and non-distractive learning. I relay the importance and relevance of the material. I recap previous lessons and try to integrate them into current assignments. I always value and respect people and expect the same of my students.

In 2004 I graduated from Smith College with a double major in American Studies and Art History. While Smith is founded in the liberal arts, I chose to take courses across all disciplines in order to receive Latin Honors. Additionally I have a MA in Media Studies from the New School University.
