Knowledgeable and Enthusiastic Tutor in English and Algebra

Hello! My name is Christina, and my chief tutoring interest is in English and related areas such as writing, reading comprehension, grammar and literature. As an English major in college, I found myself frequently editing friends' papers at their bequests. I found the process very satisfying, and I enjoyed being able to assist them in learning new concepts and helping them develop their own writing skills. I also developed a deep interest in literacy during my collegiate studies, and I like the idea of helping students improve their skills through tutoring. In addition to my specialty area in English, I am also very competent at pre-Algebra, Algebra 1 and Algebra 2. I am experienced with test preparation, having taken numerous AP exams, IB exams, the ACT and both the regular SAT and several SAT subject tests. A Little Bit About Me...

I am willing to tailor my teaching style to the needs of the individual(s). However, I prefer to add an interactive element to all of my lessons.
I worked with a variety of ages from k-12. My most recent experience has been with students in elementary school. I worked for a semester teaching children about sustainable practices and the benefits of buying produce from local farms. While I am most comfortable with high school students, I have great communication skills and can work well with all children.

What a better way to teach your teen than by a teen?

I graduated high school in late October of 2012. I am not currently in college. I am working twords bettering my future. I enjoy helping others and I find it easy. I used to be tutored and I hated it because the tutors seemed to not care if I got it. I make sure the person or people I am tutoring understand and remember how to do what I am asked to teach them. In high school my teachers used to send me to other classes and tutor kids in the middle of class. I am extremely flexable and can help just about anyone I try to teach. I will not say every because no one is perfect and I'm not going to pretend I am.

I believe that the success of the student relies in one thing; and that thing is TRUST. If the student trusts in their teacher, an amazing relationship can be formed. The student would become more opened to suggestions and constructive criticism. With that trust in the teacher, they would believe that they are to be lead into the right path no matter how tough it may be at first. The teacher should be encouraging perseverance through the struggles and promoting the incredible feeling of success once the goal has been reached.
