I have had a variety of work experiences in the past ranging from resident assistant, teacher, counselor, and multicultural tutor. These experiences have lead to the building of invaluable skills such as organization, prioritizing, adapting quickly to challenges and changing environments, and strong self-management skills. Effective communication and interpersonal skills were needed to succeed in each of these endeavors as well. A Little Bit About Me...

I have one year of experience teaching children. This experience was teaching a nutrition and wellness program designed by Fargo Cass Public Health to elementary age children. I have a BS in Community Health Education, which has given me the skills to design, implement, and deliver many lessons on health-related topics. As an intern at the Alzheimer's Association, I was able to teach professionals and the community about the disease. I also possess excellent grammar and reading skills as the result of writing many research papers. Currently, I help people with disabilities find employment. This allows me to practice my writing skills on a daily basis as I compose notes on the service I provide to my clients. I see my job as that of facilitator: the student is there, the information is there, and the student is the learner. I'm just there to guide, explain, provide details, clarify, relate new information to existing knowledge, etc. The student has to be "in charge," so to speak. I can't force knowledge into someone's mind, it has to be learned, but I can help make that information real and relevant to provide the motivation to learn. I'm very attentive to affective factors (stress, irrelevance, animosity, etc.) that can impede learning, and I strive to provide a learning environment that will foster a love of learning and scholarship. I try to utilize many different styles of teaching methods as everybody learns information differently. I believe that one will learn more quickly if they are able to do the task themselves rather then watch the task be done. I also believe that we all learn through our own mistakes much faster then trying to learn from anothers mistake.
When I began my college education I declared pre-med as my course of study. Unfortunately, since I had to work to put myself through school, I became burned out my the countless hours of work. When I was no longer having fun in school, I decided to switch majors and declared History. History can be very interesting coursework and also allowed flexibility in further education if I decided to persure more higher education.
