A Little Bit About Me...

I don't believe in one set teaching style. I think each student requires a personalized teaching style and I would try to accommodate each student personally.
I have previously, and am currently, tutoring a fourth grade student with his spelling and math. I graduated from Auburn High School with a 3.8 GPA. I have an ACT score of 30. I am a National Achievement Semifinalist because of my PSAT scores and am waiting to find out if my SAT scores were high enough to qualify as a finalist. I will be attending UAB in the Fall of 2013. My philosophy of discipline is simple: observe, take data and find the function of the behavior. When a student misbehaves in class there is an underlying reason. Every behavior has a function. The function can be to gain access to an item or person, to avoid doing the work or aggressive behaviors if they do not understand the assignment completely, medicine or personal affects (hungry, sleepy or thirsty). I also believe in “brain breaks”. My students take a break every hour to get up, walk around, listen to music and get the wiggles out. Elementary Math is one of my top subjects! Math is one of my many passions. I love problem solving and recognizing patterns. I can break down complicated problems to where they are easier to understand. I am also minoring in math at school.

I am a certified teacher for the Phenix City, Alabama school system. I have 4 years of teaching experience. I have 2 years experience in tutoring. I interned at Lakewood Elementary School in Phenix City, Alabama for first grade and fifth grade. I was then hired on as a second grade teacher upon the conclusion of my internship requirements. I receive a bachelor’s degree in piano performance from Auburn University in 2013. I am currently a masters student at Loyola University. I taught private piano lessons for 7 years and I accompanied church choirs for 6 years.
