My goal with every child is to provide an educational experience tailored to her or him, specifically. I have mastered diagnostic techniques that will determine a child's needs in terms of learning-style, ability-level, and comfort-zone. Students learn skills by using them in a realistic, subject-specific context, and in a combined way. So they might use other skills taught before such as note taking, highlighting, all in context. The purpose of the skills are stressed, students are taught not just what to do and how, but also why. The students then reflect on how well they used the skills, what gains they were getting and so on, and then they action plan for improvement.

A Little Bit About Me...

In addition to academics, my students and I focus a lot on being good citizens, and having open/honest communication. I try to foster an environment that instills respect and understanding. In reading, we do both guided reading and book club units. This allows students to get individual skills, along with discussing full texts with one another. My students are very pationate about their writer's notebooks, and the writer's workshop program we have been focusing on this year (and years past). We have worked hard to master the challenging NYS math curriculum, and have met with success within the classroom.
