I have been teaching for 13 years. I began teaching Social Studies classes at the high school level and taught every variety of student for 6 years. I then received my Masters in Special Education and began working with special needs students in the high school setting. While teaching Special Education students,I received my Specialists Degree in Special Education. I currently teach Social Studies to learning disabled, emotional behavior students, and Mildly Intellectually disabled students. I am also in charge of the tutoring program for the whole school in Social Studies. I have a lot of patience and am willing to try anything. I also teach 2 resource classes to the LD and EBD students where we work on their individual problems. Every student is different so I have to be a jack of all trades to work with them.

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe the teacher needs to create a safe learning environment, explore different learning styles, and always keep in mind Bloom's Taxonomy.(yes, the fundamentals are still important) I prefer to teach students the curriculum, not teach curriculum to the students. A Little Bit About Me...

I find that teaching is as much about getting to know each person, finding there strengths and weaknesses and using those to benefit them in their process of understanding. I like to come up with creative approaches that will suit each individual's strengths for learning. I know that one on one attention, support and encouragement is a large component of what is missing in a lot of today's public school classrooms and love the opportunity that tutoring can provide to children who can learn just as well as anyone else, but may not be finding success in the classroom.
