My teaching style is active and enthusiastic. I show students clues and shortcuts in all sorts of subjects so that learning can be fun and even easy. I am tolerant and patient, while at the same time I request diligence and assiduousness. I revel in the success of my students, thanks to their efforts and hard work. I love to see students finally understand something they find challenging. My love of reading and writing has led me to excel in 2 languages. An English major at Carleton College, I mastered the art of putting thoughts on paper to persuade, compare, or explicate; as well as how to read for meaning. Later at the Sorbonne in Paris, I transferred these talents to French. I have since taught and tutored reading, writing, and speaking in both languages in the U.S. and abroad.

As a student of the College of Science, I excel both at detail in quantifiable information , and the ability to translate professional speak into everyday language. I excel in English, Science, and Psychology. I have been tutoring for five years and homeschool my 8-year-old stepdaughter. I take the time to assess each students learning style and tailor the material to their individuality. This makes learning fun and memorable. I like working with children. I also enjoyed observing the wide variety of ways the human mind processes numbers and the mathematical process. My mathematical teaching technique is to patiently observe how a student works and adjust my style accordingly. Even though mathematics comes off to many people as a rigid discipline. A thousand ways exist to teach and illustrate the same concept. I have a B.S. in Computer Science. I also have 3 years as a substitute teacher as well as 3 in the semiconductor field. I come form a family of educators (mother, uncle, great aunt). I college, I tutored many of my friends in higher mathematics (one of which attained a PhD in Electrical Engineering recently). I believe that each person has a different style of learning. Therefore, I try to adjust my teaching style based on the individual. While this is not possible in a classroom setting it is possible in a tutoring situation. Furthermore, I am a big proponent of making the subject personally relevant. Research shows that doing this streamlines the transition from short-term memory into long-term memory. I recently earned my M.S. in a psychology program that was heavily research based. Throughout my coursework, lab experience, and graduate teaching assistantship I have develop a high level of mastery in statistical analysis. This includes inferential and descriptive statistics as well as probability. I am most familiar with conversation, as a means of relating information and testing understanding. I think that a through understanding in any subject comes about when a student can recognize the important concepts, and how they relate to each other, and speak those concepts in words which they understand--while gaining the vocabulary and proficiency as each subject demands. Most of all, I am an interested learner, in a variety of subjects, and I am excited to share my interest with others. I have a good sense of when I am being understood, and when I am not. I ask for questions, both so that I can explain myself, and so that that subject might be brought to greater depth.
