My comments on tutoring Math : I am a College Professor (History, Philosophy, Ethics, English) with many years of tutoring experience. I have a math/science background (Bronx High School of Science). I have helped many students to achieve well on standardized tests. I am patient and understanding.

In my experience, the majority of students are highly motivated. This is, for me, the key to success. However, very often, students require assistance with a wide range of ‘remediation’ in many of life’s basic competencies: a skill set that includes such issues as time management, test taking, study habits, and, sometimes, acculturation. My teaching methodology follows these simple steps: Step 1: Motivation Step 2: Definition & Understanding of terms Step 3: Explanation, exploration, discussion, debate Step 4: Questions & Answers Step 5: Practice: Time & Effort Step 6: Demonstration (or proof) I absolutely believe that motivation is required for learning. I have found that students become more motivated to learn when they understand how they will profit from the experience. I teach ‘communication’ all the time, regardless of the subject matter. Learning is a process to enjoy not to suffer!

I have created a special but easy method to learn and teach Chinese and Japanese speaking languages. I have two years experience in teaching students in Tokyo, and proven to be very effective and efficient. I helped to student to master the complicated Chinese tone in just one lesson of 45 minutes. I helped to student to master the Japanese pronunciation system in two lessons. Language learning should not be a hard process, just image not matter who he/she is, he/she can speak his/her mother language well. I myself learned a second language and mastered it just in 14 months. I speak Chinese, English and Japanese. As a master of sciences, I was a fun of math; I can help the student out of learning it.

My comments on tutoring Math : I am a Philadelphian who graduated from Cheyney University after majoring in the subject of biology. Mathematics is a fun subject to learn and to teach to students and to teachers.

My style is based on the student's manner of learning and it is based on repetition of various materials. First, I allow the student to tell me what she or he knows about the subject. From that I can see what he or she has maintained and what style of learning fits the student best. I also like to have students complete problems in a very close manner to the manner that I used to solve similar problems. After I finish one problem, I like her or him to repeat solving the problem and explain why various steps have been taken to solve the problem. This works well for mathematics and it also can works well for writing and for understanding what was read.
I have began to help students in the 1960s when I was a grade school student adn when I volunteered at Get Set, where my mother worked as a full time teacher assistant. Later, I worked as a councilor as a summer-time e ... read more

Philadelphia Tutor

Over the past three years, I have tutored several students in mathematics, biology, and biochemistry at the Academic Support Unit of the Multicultural Life Center at the University of Tennessee Knoxville. I guided their development of individual note-taking strategies, study habits, and problem solving skills. I chose to tutor mathematics and biology in order to enhance my interpersonal, people management and critical thinking skills. Also, it was an opportunity to apply and share my knowledge with other motivated students from different academic years and majors. Throughout the experience, my goal was to help students become independent learners who can challenge themselves and maintain academic success. It also helped me understand the relationship between a mentor and a mentee.
