A Little Bit About Me...

I have a concrete-sequential learning style, and am very aware of the need for practice and repetition to develop and perfect skill acquisition. Stereotypically low proficiency in writing capabilities in many students is due to the fact that many of them are not expected to produce nearly enough original written materials of any length during their public school years. They are also far more likely to become successful writers if they will discipline themselves to read a great deal. Imitation of the style and grammar evidenced by others will assist with their own creative endeavors.
The position obviously requires excellent written communications skills. I believe that people learn in different fashions. For example, I feel that some concepts may be better explained with tangible objects while other concepts are learned better when questioned and discussed. By exploring the different ways of learning we can find what works best for that individual and use that method as a tool for their understanding. I feel, in the past, that many of the peers I tutored not only obtained/recollected more information, but were more comfortable in a quiet, relaxed environment. By providing this, it sets the foundation for them to focus on the task at hand.

After I received my degree in Elementary Education, I was a substitute teacher in IA for one year. I then worked, taught and advised at a small private college in Iowa. I have also owned and operated a daycare in my home for over three years. Currently have have spent the past two years as a substitute teacher for the Buffalo, MN school district. This is a job I love for the simple fact that I have variety everyday. It is also a great way to stay up to date on all subject matter. I am also in the process of earning my Master's Degree in Education.
