I have worked with young people tutoring elementary and high school subjects as well as being a public school teacher for over 10 years. I enjoy teaching and investing in children. I was credentialed as a Substitute Teacher. When I taught in public schools teachers would request me by name to teach for their classes. I have experience working with elementary ages through high school and even adults. When teaching I try to break complex materials and concepts down into practical illustrations and concepts so the student can see the big picture then fit the concept into that picture. My Bachelor of Science in Biology degree was earned at Pennsylvania State University, and I accumulated 124 credit hours with some education courses. A Little Bit About Me...

I volunteered for the Special Olympics and for the D.A.R.E program from Elementary students back in 2003 and 2008. With the Special Olympics, I helped cook and serve food to the contestants in the olympics and I also was there to be a friendly and supportive coach-assistant to the athletes. With the D.A.R.E program, I went to Elementary schools in the town of Faribault MN, and I worked along side with the police department to show and educate kids the dangers of meeting strangers and how to handle that type of situation.
I don't have a wide teaching experience but I do enjoy working and helping Elementary or junior high leveled children. I believe that applications to everyday life should be stressed if a tutor/teacher is to pique the interest of their student(s). Rather than stressing rote memorization, I believe it is more important to relate overall concepts in a "partnering" style. It is important to remember that one of the cornerstones of teaching is making the subject matter interesting and relevant to the student's experiences. I believe it is also important to focus on a student's strengths rather than their weaknesses. As in many areas of life, teaching also requires patience.
