A Little Bit About Me...

For the past 30 years, I have worked with special needs students. I believe that students learn at their educational level. The problem with education today, is that students are often in classrooms that stress learning at their frustration level. Many students are in general ed settings, but are forced to use materials that they do not fully understand. In my role as a teacher consultant, I adapted materials so the students could understand it. If chosen as a tutor, I would do the same so the students would learn at their education level.
I am a retired special ed teacher. I worked with Learning Disabled, Emotionally Impaired, Cognitively Impaired, and Austistic students primarily in the high school. I have been a nurse for 10 years, 3 of which I taught nursing. During this time I taught Anatomy & Physiology, Pharmacology, Trauma & Emergencies, and Pathophysiology. This experience, along with 7 years of caring for patients in the hospital, has given me the ability to help students to better understand these subjects and apply them to the clinical area. I have earned a bachelor degree in nursing in a program that emphasized presentations and computer knowledge. This gives me a better understanding to help college students with projects and presentations.
I believe that each person learns differently. It is important to identify how students learn and teach them accordingly.
