French is one of my top subjects! Since there are only three choices, "Expert" to me is native mastery of the language. Although not a native, I am very well versed in the French language, thanks to my love of both the language and culture. I lived in France for two years of my university, something that I would very much do again.
French is a very complicated language, full of different nuances and grammatical rules that can really discourage a new French student (even advanced students !). Unfortunately there are a lot of programs out there that promise mastery of French in a couple months to even a couple of weeks! This is not correct, it takes time, dedication, and motivation to master a language. That is the beauty of language learning, the journey never ends. My goal with the student is to help the student stay motivated throughout their journey in the French language, to make sure that they stay at it even during the "plateau" phases of language learning. I have always had an interest in both the French language and its respective culture since I was a child. When I was in first year of high school I took my first French class and fell in love with the language. I took learning it very seriously until I had the chance to study abroad in college. While attending Stetson University, I was able to have the chance to study in Avignon, France and ended up staying for two years! While studying there I was able to really experience the culture and really obtain a good comprehension of the language. Since returning, I have kept up my French through my friends I have here in the US plus French coaches whom I work closely with to help my pronunciation stay as close to French as possible. It is safe to say that I do not carry an American accent when speaking French.
