If "Math" is a nightmare, brace yourself for a sweetdream.

I have tutored math very often and over the course of helping others, I've learned the British ways of solving a math problem is extremely easy while the American ways are a bit confusing for the students. I could remember a day while working at Dollar Tree HQ in the Finance Department, a math problem arises and it took my supervisor 12 minutes while I solved it in 45 seconds. We arrived at the same answer however, time is of the essence.
Breaking step down till a layman can understand and I love to be interrupted with questions.

I double-majored in biology in chemistry in undergrad, so the field of science and medicine is my first love and my strength. A Little Bit About Me...

I have learned a great deal about the various learning and teaching styles. I understand that some students learn better with hands-on instruction, while others are more auditory or visual learners. I truly have a passion for spreading my love of Spanish, and teaching other students the importance of the language, and all of the interesting cultural differences and similarities we have with Hispanic countries. I also have found that rather than force grammar in as a separate lesson, it is better received if taught in a practical use manner that augments a certain vocabulary list or point. I like teaching people of various ages because I can relate to most anyone. Teaching math is all about wording the problem, theorem, technique, etc into words and terms that a student can understand. In most cases, I am able to do that for my students.
In February 1996 I started tutoring remedial math and accounting in the TCC, Virginia Beach Campus, tutor lab. As I took more courses, the subjects I tutored grew. When I transferred to Virginia Wesleyan I joined their tutor lab an continued tutoring math and business classes. Since I graduated in 2000 with my business degree I have taken several math classes at TCC, the highest being Calculus IV. In that time, I have tutored family, friends, fellow students (as I pursued higher math classes) and coworkers, usually working for the fun of math and to help out friends. Over the last two years I have tutored as a part time job.

Over the past five years I have worked as a Teacher/Instructor both the the legal field and in the public school setting with students diagnosed as ED and LD as well as being displaced from the normal public school setting. Even though my academic degrees are in the legal field I have stayed current in areas of Reading and Math from Basic Algebra to Geometry.
I believe that a student who lacks the basic fundamental skills in reading and mathematics will struggle to stay focused in class and continually be disruptive and ultimately stop attending school.
