Looking to get your student to catch up during the summer?

Three years of experience in writing and editing as a staff member at the Grand Valley Lanthorn, a student-run newspaper at GVSU. I began as an intern and held various writing and editing jobs throughout my tenure, ultimately departing as editor in chief. IN NEED OF A JOB

I have obtained my GED and have always had straight As in high school. I'm also familiar with construction and building skills. I am a visual learner and will do my best to make the teaching fun. I have also obtained 13 college credits from Kalamazoo valley central college. The 13 credits that I have obtained are in computer skills. Easy-going and very easy to relate to/understand

Casual, but very effective.
Employed at Oakland Community College 2010-2011. I have been a tutor at OCC since 2010, but have had a lot of private experience prior. My methods are very effective, yet unconventional. This serves both you and me very well because I like what I do and you get the knowledge you're seeking. I can always understand a student's individual needs because I have been around such a large variety of learning styles. Also, I believe that a "set" lesson plan is worthless for English because who's to say that everyone with a specific problem is not understanding it for the same reason? One person may not understand the use of paragraph formation for a completely different reason than the next.

My comments on tutoring Poetry : I have a Masters in Poetry from the University of Michigan, where I was awarded a Zell Postgraduate Fellowship and was a semi-finalist for the Thoerdore Roethke Hopwood Award. My collection of poems, Point of Sand, was awarded the Michigan Writers Chapbook Award in 2009. In addition to spending my summers on the Creative Writing Faculty at the Interlochen Center for the Arts where I teach high school poetry majors, I currently teach in the English department at the University of Michigan.

I received my Masters in Poetry from the University of Michigan in 2011, where I was awarded a Zell Postgraduate Fellowship, and where I currently teach in the English Department. This will be my 6th summer on the Creative Writing Faculty at the Interlochen Center for the Arts, where I world primarily with high school poetry majors. I have a chapbook (Michigan Writers Associated Press. 2009), and have publications in journals such as The Dunes Review and The Smoking Poet.
