A Little Bit About Me...

I attanded and graduated from the University of Florida with my BS in Health Science, graduating Cum Laude. Although my degree is in the Health Sciences field, I have extensive background in all the science fields, 4 years plus of chemistry and biology, as well as extensive experience in the reading/writing fields. I was enrolled in numerous lecture and laboratory courses throughout my time at UF. In regards to teaching skills, I tutored throughout my time at UF and for the past 3 months, have been tutoring at Huntington Learning Center as a K-12 tutor in both reading and math. I have an undergraduate and master's degree, both focused in religious studies. I taught for two years at a private school here in Orlando. I taught middle school English and Bible. I have also been working with Valencia Community College (east campus) as a tutor for many different subject areas. I have also done some tutoring on the side in reading, grammar, math, religion, history, etc.
I really love working with young people and helping them to reach their full potential. As a tutor, I do not teach the material necessarily, but I help to facilitate the learning process and reiterate what has already been explained and taught in the classroom (hopefully). I was a member of the Honors program at Valencia Community College, and graduated with my Associates (AA) as a Pre-Major in Elementary Education. I was hired as a Substitute Teacher for Orange County Public Schools in 2007, where I substituted for absent teachers and paraprofessionals in the Orange County Public Schools district. As a Substitute teacher, I taught children individually, as well as in group settings with varying exceptionalities. I also have taught children piano lessons, and french horn lessons in after-school programs.
I absolutely love helping children obtain their goals education-wise. I understand that every child is unique, and have unique learning styles; some children learn best visually, others are auditory learners. When I started at UCF, I was invited to join a cohort of students who were on the path to become Educators, the STEP Program. This allowed me early on to get into a classroom and volunteer with students. These early experiences made me know for certain that my passion was in teaching. In Spring 2010, my degree in Elementary Education was conferred. Over the summer I worked for a Girl Scout day camp, and then was hired by the Citrus Council.
