I have a year of experience working as a Peer Facilitator at New Mexico State University where I was responsible for grading papers, tutoring, facilitating biology workshops, and hosting exam review sessions for lower level undergraduate biology courses. As an Electrical Engineering student at Virginia Tech, I tutored other students in all subject matter related to my field. I tutored for three years privately and one year at the Electrical Engineering department tutring center. Since then I have worked for about four years in my field professionaly. However, I have found tutoring is my real passion and am now pursuing this opportunity. Preference is Calculus and related mathematics but all Electrical Engineering material is acceptable.

My two and half years of teaching math and physics in high school as well as 8 years of college teaching taught me a great deal about encouraging learning. I always attempt to explain the beauty of mathematics to my students in hopes that they will develop the same admiration of the logic and order of mathematics and science. My tutoring will generally involve a brief explanation of theory and background, followed by one or two fully worked examples (if applicable). Then exercise problems or homework questions will be worked by the student. I encourage students to memorize the procedure of a solution. However, I always ensure that the student understands why steps are being taken in a given solution, and is not simply blindly following a solution procedure. I believe that in order for students to obtain knowledge, they must develop some level of interest in the subject. As a teacher, I try to understand the student's mind in order to present the material in such a way that it will fit together with the student's preexisting knowledge.
