I have extensive experience working with students of all ages, from elementary school through junior college. As a parent volunteer, I tutored K-6 students in math and reading. As a Learning Center and Basic Skills instructor at Trinidad State Junior College, I taught classes in math and English, and I worked individually with students on a variety of subjects including study skills, spelling, history, math, and English. I live to create a love of English!

I have not tutored as an actual job ever, though I have done many other things that would be considered tutoring. I help my 12 year old nephew with his homework and have done so for about a year. I taught Sunday School at church for two years. My friends and other students have always come to me for help with essays and other English related assignments. Whether it be general proofreading, paragraph writing, paragraph flow, etc, that is the type of help I gave. I also have several Korean friends at college who are learning English as their second language, and one Finnish friend who learned English as her fifth language. I explain the basics to them, and help them learn English. I've learned that I do well in this field, and would like to continue with a paying job.

i take a more relaxed route of teaching. i have found that if you sit there and point out faults and appear like you expect them to get it right on the first try it will turn the student away from you and cause them to hate the subject and ultimately fail. i take a more friendly route. talk about myself admit faults that i have when they appear. i try to become friends with the student in question and add fun with learning. if there is something specific that is needed extra attention to i will ask them to do the problem and point out there faults. i do not do everything for them. i let them test there knowledge and provide support when needed.

The kinesthetic/tactile learner had learning disabilities akin to ADD, but still did very well in the small group environment.
