As a student at the University of Detroit Mercy, I worked as a tutor for two years. I helped other students struggling in mathematics and biology classes. Also, my senior year in college I worked as a Teaching Assistant for a Microbiolgy lab. In addition, I did student teaching for a Catholic Middle School.
Many people have different teaching skills and techniques. I do not believe any technique to educate a child is better than any other technique. Each child learns differently. Understanding the fact that children learn differently is crucial. The teacher must be able to adapt to the child's learning style. I believe I have the ability to use an array of teaching styles to help children. I would enjoy the opportunity to help children learn.

I believe in empowering our students whenever possible. By this I mean allowing the students to be in charge and have control over their own learning by giving students options. I like working with students in small groups, where I mix their levels of ability thus allowing then to learn not only from me, but from each other as well!
I have been teaching for close to fifteen years now, and have had a great deal of experience in working with students from Kindergarten all the up to adult education. I worked there for one year until I found a regular postion at a public school academy in Inkster, MI. I was moved around in the system because they hired too many teachers. I found my permenant teaching position at Aisha Shule, an African-centered public school academy, where I have been teaching for at least six years now.
