Learning and teaching is my passion. In high school it ws teachers with the same passion that made learning fun and encouraged me to achieve academic success. Most any subject can be made interesting if approached the right way. Mostly it is about patience and good respectful communication. I especially cherish working with young children who are usually starving for real knowlege, but are lacking the opportunity to engage their minds in a meaningful way. I try to involve as many senses as I can when illustrating new concepts and ideas. Math manipulatives are essential elements for early math comprehension. Whenever a game can help solidify ideas, it is utilized and learning is always fun. Children reach benchmarks, such as reading independently and math computation at different rates, so it's important to be consistent but very patient and encouraging. A solid reading foundation is the greatest gift our children can receive. Comprehension is a key factor to understanding any subject at all.

I began teaching in fifth grade when my science teacher conceded that I knew more about sharks than he did, so when we got to that lesson, I took over for two days. In tenth grade, I had an internship at my high school teaching ninth grade Global Studies. When I graduated college, I began substitute teaching while I wrote my first few novels. I have substituted in every major subject at the high school level. I have also been an adjunct professor teaching study skills and business english at a local college.

As a Siena College graduate I developed a very hands on approach to active learning. Through classroom lecture and instruction I've completed the necessary coursework to complete my BS of biology. Due to my strong work ethic I've gained knowledge and skills in the physical sciences, as well as in other subject areas. During my college years I subbed as teacher at a public K-12 school. During that time I taught a variety of grade levels, and worked as a one-on-one aide.
