I love learning math and science and I enjoy sharing the same love of learning with my students. I like seeing the look on their face when they really get it! Students requiring tutoring are sometimes in academic distress and have anxiety therefore I have a more easy going and patient style of tutoring than most. I believe I'm an effective tutor because I remember the exact same difficulties and questions I had as a student and can relate to their frustration. Most people as well as myself are visual learners thus I teach by working several examples and gradually increasing the difficulty at a pace set by the student. The best way to describe my teaching style is to find a creative way to remember material. For example, I have a child that had to memorize his prepositions. We made up a song that included them all, in order. It turned out to something like this....ABOARD a ship AS we were traveling ABOUT eight knots, etc. This style was very effective for memorizing. For subjects that require more understanding than memorizing, I prefer my "teach and try" method. This means that I go through multiple problems with a student explaining the steps involved. Then, I set-up a mock test to test their abilities solo. I therefore can grasp their understanding and pinpoint their weaknesses.

As a young child I was diagnosed with dyslexia. I have worked hard to to get my degree and have overcome many challenges.
