A Little Bit About Me...

My style is dependent on the student. While the end result is having a student understand the material, the way of achieving this varies with each person. Some students require a lot of hand holding while some require a more hands off approach. To achieve understanding I will cater to the students needs.
I have tutored high school students who are college bound during my undergraduate years at William Paterson University of New Jersey. I also tutored my fellow undergraduates. I then pursued a doctorate and was active in many peer study groups where were tutored each other in neuroscience and organic chemistry. My comments on tutoring Life Science : I hold a Ph.D in a Life Science discipline.

I took a variety of Biology classes and Labs at WPI mostly focused on Cell Biology and Molecular Genetics. I recently finished my PH.D. where I studied control of viral gene expression. This work encompassed a variety of biological disciplines including virology, cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, and molecular genetics, all of which I am quite experienced in. I also have experience teaching in a seminar format as well as in small groups. As a senior graduate student I was responsible for leading discussions prior to invited speaker seminars.
I believe that stimulating conversation and allowing people to arrive at answers on their own and through experience is the best way to form lasting connections.

Working with elementary students of all ages and levels has made me believe that all children can learn if given the opportunity and the right instruction. Not everyone learns the same way, and it is our job as teachers to make sure each student gets the instruction they need. If a student does no understand something, then we have to find another way to explain it so they do. Our job is not done until the student succeeds in learning.
