I was a tutor for students with disabilities for EPCC. Had a vast experience at EPCC because I would tutor Math, Writing, history and gave classes for effective note taking techniques. Did volunteer adult classes for ESL in Nashville, TN for a group of 5 or more adults per class. ESL classes included basic writing, reading and speaking English.

I have a social work background which, in my work has always been integrated with some component of teaching, both in and out of the classroom. I can teach most K-12 subjects, college prep courses and provide tutoring services including assessment and curriculum development. I have been teaching in the area of communication disorders for 19 years. Many students are slow and labored readers, due to the fact that they do not "hear" and process sounds or phonics as well as others. I recently learned that dyslexia has many of the same characteristics as those seen in students who are hard-of-hearing, so I attended a workshop to learn the Wilson method of teaching students who are dyslexic. Teaching in both areas requires seeing reading in a different way. If your child has difficulty reading, can't decode words, or seems to have become discouraged with reading and given up, they may need a "different" approach!
