My comments on tutoring Elementary Phonics : Phonics was part of the Language Arts block during my teaching years. Phonics was mainly stressed in the primary grades, but was randomly covered in the spelling text in grades 5 and 6.

I am not the traditional teacher. I believe in using centers and interactive notebooks as teaching tools. By using drama, creativity, projects, and art, my lessons become alive and keep the students motivated. RESPECT is a must in my classroom. Each child knows that he is respected and safe when he becomes a member of my classroom community.
I am a retired elementary school teacher with 30 years of experience. The grade levels I have taught are 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th. My comments on tutoring Elementary Phonics : Learning phonics is one of the most challenging aspects of learning to read in English because it's very different from learning to read in Spanish, where almost everything is written just as it sounds. It's very frustrating for ELL students as well as special education students and it requires gentile guidance as well as frequent review. Voluntary reading helps many students stay interested in learning.

I have been hired recently to teach Creative Writing, Reading and Math in late November. I've also been employed as a TAKS tutor in the EPISD, middle school level working with ELL learners, regular program and special education students. I've student taught in at a 4th and 5th grade level, all subjects. I've also been a pre-school teacher with approximately 27 credits in Early Childhood Education. I am also a parent of a student with special needs, so I've always helped my son with his homework since he was very young. He was diagnosed with a severe to moderate learning disability and also had a speech delay. I was also an elected Local School Council Parent Rep in Chicago and served a 2 year term.
