It depends on the student and what they are doing. If all they need is practice, then I will let the student do all of the work, interjecting only to give advice or to correct a mistake if the student does not catch it themselves. If needed, I will work out similar problems. If the student needs help understanding, I first go in depth why it works and why you do what you do. I then give concrete examples to demonstrate it so that the why makes sense and comes together with the actual application. Then I have the student practice to make sure they truly understand. If needed, I will become creative and come up with different ways of looking at problems so that they can make sense. But no matter what I try to have fun. The best way to learn is to have fun, and if you aren't enjoying yourself you probably won't be receptive to learning.

I am by nature an encourager. I am optimistic every child can learn -- the trick is to spark an interest in the subject and communicate the material to them in an understandable way. I have acquired a bachelor of arts in Mathematics and was a tutor for 2 years in the math department. I was also responsible for conducting tutoring sessions before a midterm and final. I have tutored probability and statistics, precalculus, calculus I,II,III, advanced calculus, differential equations, and college algebra.
I believe that mathematics is a hard subject to teach only because it's a subject that may not come as innately easy to most.
