I have had over 3 years of tutoring students in Algebra as well as science. I am a member of Phi Theta Kappa and Sigma Kappa Delta where I graduated with honors from LSCS. I enjoy helping students to succeed in their courses. However, most teachers provide just one standard way of learning. I do not believe this is the way that students should be taught. In order to be a great teacher, every subject needs to be taught from multiple perspectives. I believe in my students and that they can succeed if they are given opportunity.
I believe every student can succeed in their courses. Therefore, I follow a different approach to teaching the subject from multiple perspectives not just one standard way of learning.

I use note-cards and mnemonics. I'm also fond of repetition (which will allow the student to obviously retain the information) and often do reviews at the end of a session to further examine what said student is struggling with.
So far I have only tutored one student for a year or so. However, I am very knowledgeable in these subjects and hope to make the best of your child's tutoring experience. And despite my inexperience, I am more than capable of tutoring. I also am willing to respect the established rules and wishes that the student's caretakers have placed upon us meeting.

A Little Bit About Me...

I hold a M.A. in medical anthropology as well as a B.A. in cultural anthropology. Throughout graduate school I worked as a teaching assistant and upon graduation I taught biological and cultural anthropology courses for the University of Memphis's department of anthropology. The focus area of my graduate studies was child health; this resulted in working on numerous projects with elementary and middle school aged students. In the past I have volunteered with adult literacy programs and I feel equally comfortable teaching teens as well as children.
I love working with children; I began early on as a summer camp counselor for the Girl Scouts of America organization. Additionally I baby-sat throughout my undergraduate years and as mentioned child health became my focus during graduate school. I believe that learning is best achieved through tactile experiences that help the individual ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Creative, innovative, and interesting lessons are my forte. I am experienced in providing a constructivist-based approach to knowledge acquisition. Hands-on lesson promote student involvement and increase the development of student responsibility towards their education. I have found that a cross-curriculum approach to the material being presented fosters true understanding and relevance.
I am a student of history and believe that knowledge acquisition comes from interest and enthusiasm on the part of the learner. This interest comes from having an instructor who them selves is a learner. A partnership in the tasks being presented usually results in the student wanting to understand the information and making connections. To promote critical thinking I present the material in a global manner, allowing the learner to relate the information/skill to the real-world.

A Little Bit About Me...

My tutoring began in high school, when I tutored younger students in any subject, from Math to English. I learned to love tutoring. I enjoy helping people to realize their full potential. The most rewarding part of tutoring, in my opinion, is the look on the child's face when something finally makes sense. I have obtained a BBA from the University of Toledo. While in college, I spent a year as a tutor and mentor to younger students, and to help teach a Freshman Orientation course. I have also been responsible for training new hires at my last place of employment. During my two years, I trained 4 new employees in my department, as well as cross-training 2 employees from other departments.
I believe that teaching should be a collaborative process. The first step is to listen to the child and try to gain a sense of their own learning process. If you understand how the child learns, ... read more

More About This Tutor...

As a student at the University of Houston I earned a scholarship each semester through the Scholar Enrichment Program. It was based off of a students academic performance each semester and it would require me to tutor other students in classes I performed well in. I tutored students in General Biology, General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Physics. I also have a minor in history and health so I can help students with those courses as well. I also have two publications with my name on them from research I have conducted at Baylor College of Medicine and MD Anderson Cancer Center.
My teaching style is to engage the student in learning. I begin by a review of the material to see how much the student knows. Then I get the student involved in learning by practicing. From my experience, repitition will not only help the student to remember the information but help them to become a mo ... read more
