As a recent college graduate I have extensive knowledge in the physical and biological sciences, including chemistry, geology, soil science, physics, botany. I have strong writing and reading skills, as well as personal interest in history and social science. This past summer I was an intern with the City of San Luis Obispo Parks and Recreation Department in which I was responsible for planning and running environmental education summer camps for kids ages six to twelve. More teaching experience includes working in an after school homework club for elementary students of all grades, as well as a classroom aid in a second grade class and a kindergarden class. A Little Bit About Me...

As a math major, I tutored my peers throughout college. While I can tutor almost any math subject and several science subjects, my favorite subject to teach is algebra. My teaching experience actually extends back to high school where not only did I tutor fellow students in math and chemistry but I also taught swim lessons as my part time job. More recently I tutored students in the chemistry study center at the University of Washington. Furthermore, anyone who attends a University knows that being a successful active learner involves studying in groups where you teach others and others teach you.
As a teacher or tutor it is very important to realize that everybody learns differently. Because of this you have to strive to find the way your student learns and utilize creative ways to make sure the student understands what you are teaching to them. A Little Bit About Me...

Children and adults learn in different ways. Visual, auditory, kinesthetic are three ways that people can learn, I happen to be mostly kinesthetic. I alter how I teach depending on what my students need and what the resources are. I do use a constructivist teaching style to do this. I do believe that a student rises to the expectations of the instructor. I also believe that the responsibility of learning should be increasingly the students as they take over their own education away from the instructor. I started teaching in 1970 as a K-8 substitute, continuing until being hired by a private school in 1975. I then taught full time in East LA. Upon moving to Wa. and being certified here, I taught in several schools in differing cultural settings untill recently starting my own business in Newport. I have also tutored and graded math praxis.

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe students will rise to the level of expectations set for them. I am a bit of a comedian, and I use humor to allay frustration in learning situations. I believe in setting goals and charting a specific path for reaching them, while being flexible enough to alter the path along the way. Praise and positive reinforcement are powerful tools when teaching challenging material, and I use them frequently.
I received a BA in General Business from WSU, and was honored as a Cum Laude graduate.
