Graphic Designer/Photographer/Artist

Very detailed instruction. Many people that work in the design business learn by hands on or being shown the steps of how to get where you want to be. I will help you until you get the correct steps.
I have been a graphic designer for over 15 years so I am very familiar with the Adobe programs, Indesign, Photoshop and Illustrator. I keep up with the trends and continuously teach myself new "tricks" of the trade. I create an environment where you feel comfortable to ask questions. I make sure you understand all of the steps that you are trying to accomplish and also provide feedback and handouts when needed.

A Little Bit About Me...

As I suffered through my younger years with Attention Deficit Disorder, I feel that it is extremely important to appeal to almost all of the senses when teaching. As for myself, I am definitely a visual learner, so I feel that visual aids are important. I am a big fan of hand outs in full color. You will often find me drawing a picture on the board. I feel it is important to hear it and see it, and if you can, touch it. Another important teaching style I implement, is watching my students and making sure they know how to do it. Going around and walking each student through the process and asking them to do what I did really confirms that the student understands what I have taught them.
As a former computer instructor, I can't tell you how much I miss teaching. Teaching was the one career in my life where I felt completely fulfilled. I truly love sharing my knowledge and bei ... read more

As a history major at Western I had to read many books and an accelerated rate. Also being an English minor I gained analytical and grammatical skills to help better understand pieces of literature I had to read and I can pass those skills to other students.
I have a laid back teaching style, within the next year I plan to get my MAT so I can teach in NC. I believe that this will help me reinforce some of my teaching skills that I will use from everyday basis.

More About This Tutor...

After earning my BS in Elementary Education at Western Carolina, I became a tutor, part time assistant in Jackson County Schools (as an assistant in two ESL classrooms-one at a high school level and in an elementary/middle school classroom) and as a Lowes Sales Associate part time. I later became a fifth grade teacher at Cherokee Elementary on the Reservation. This is my third year teaching fifth grade and my responsibilities include tutoring three days a week after school in reading and math, teaching full time all subjects including science, training for EOG administration and continuously attending workshops to gain skills pertaining to my profession.
My beliefs are that all children can learn, however, they must learn at their own pace and in their own way. This may mean being extremely patient and empathetic, not sympathetic, to their needs and using their strengths to build c ... read more

I love teaching and everything about it. I believe that anyone can tell you about a subject area, but I believe it takes a special person to be able to teach it to students. Not every student learns the same way. I like to include several different teaching styles to help every student have success. Whether it be lecturing, hands on examples, letting the students discover on their own through examples, using tangible items or practicing test skills I think I can include these different strategies to help each student succeed.
I graduated from Western Carolina University with a degree in Middle Grades Education with concentrations in Math & Science. As a student I worked in the classroom for 3 semesters doing various jobs. I have tutored students in Math, Science, Language Arts and Social Studies. I have currently been working for Macon County Schools, substitute teaching and ... read more
